Sree Dharma Sastha  temple.-Sakthikulangara

Lord Dharma Sastha is the progeny of the union of 'Lord Vishnu' in the form of 'Mohini' (his female avatar) and 'Lord Shiva'.

As per purana 'Sree Dharma Sastha' took eight incarnations in different forms at different point of time to save the world from evils. The last out of eight is the incarnation of "Lord Ayyappa at Sabarimala".

The historical Sakthikulangara Sree Dharma Sastha temple is one of the very few 'Sree Dharma Sastha temples’ in Kerala where the very charismatic charm and uniqueness of the holy Deity takes the devotees to the unknown realms of spirituality. Sree Dharma Sastha is believed to be the ‘Saving God’ of  four communities namely Sakthikulangara Cherry, Kannimel Cherry, Kureepuzha Cherry and Meenathu Cherry. Koottur family is part and parcel of the festivities.

Sakthikulangara Sree Dharma Sastha is affectionately called "Kunchachamman".

Deities (murtis in Sanskrit) are important part of Vedic temples and the Vedic tradition.
All the images of the Deities in the Vedic pantheon as found in the temples are made according to explicit details and instructions found in the Vedic texts called Shilpa Shastras. Those texts portray the proper stance, hand gestures and other features in the image of the Deity. Thus the Deities are not formed according to whim but in compliance to the scriptural regulations.
